Our Story

Good things take
time and skill.

"We started Dunmore because we couldn't find a sandbox beautiful enough for our own backyard."

Dunmore began in a garage workshop in 2018. A woodworker and a parent — frustrated by the endless rows of plastic play sets at big-box stores — started building something better. The first sandbox went to a neighbor. Then a neighbor's neighbor. Then came families from across the country, all asking the same question: can you build one just like that, but for us?

Every piece we make is built to order, by hand, from sustainably sourced cedar and hardwood. No factory. No kit. No shortcuts. We talk through your backyard with you, work up a design together, and build it from scratch — because your space, your kids, and your vision deserve something made specifically for you.

When it arrives, it isn't just a sandbox. It's the centerpiece of a backyard. The thing your children's friends remember. The piece your grandchildren play in one day.

Materials & Craft

We use only materials we'd put in our own home.

Western Red Cedar

Naturally rot-resistant, aromatic, and beautiful. Our primary wood is sustainably harvested Western red cedar — it weathers gracefully and never needs pressure treatment.

Non-Toxic Finishes

Every finish we apply is food-safe and child-safe — no VOCs, no chemical sealants. We use natural oils and waxes that protect the wood and are completely safe for little hands.

Built to Your Dimensions

No standard sizes. We build to your yard, your children's ages, and your vision. Corner bench seats, integrated covers, engraved details — everything is on the table.

How It Works

From conversation
to centerpiece.

01

We talk through your vision

Every Dunmore starts with a conversation. We want to know your yard dimensions, your children's ages, your aesthetic preferences, and what you've always imagined a sandbox could look like. There's no form to fill out — just an honest back-and-forth between you and our team.

02

We send you a detailed proposal

Within a few days, we'll send a written proposal with exact dimensions, wood species, finish options, add-ons, timeline, and price. No surprise costs. No vague estimates. You'll know exactly what you're getting before a single board is cut.

03

We build it by hand

Once you approve the proposal, our craftspeople get to work. Every joint is hand-cut. Every board is selected for grain and character. Every detail is done with the care you'd expect from a piece of furniture for your living room — because that's what this is.

04

We deliver and set it up

We ship nationwide and offer white-glove delivery and assembly in most major metro areas. We want to see the finished piece in your backyard just as much as you do — and we want it to be perfect before we leave.

From Our Families

"It's the most beautiful thing in our backyard. Neighbors stop and ask about it every week."

SARAH K. — Denver, CO

"We gave Dunmore a rough idea and they came back with something better than anything we'd imagined. Three years later, it still looks brand new."

MARCUS & JEN T. — Austin, TX

"My daughter calls it her 'beach house.' She spends hours out there every day. The quality is obvious — it feels like real furniture, not a toy."

PRIYA M. — Chicago, IL

"Worth every penny. We paid for quality and got something we're going to keep in the family. The engraving alone made my wife cry when it arrived."

DAVID R. — Portland, OR
